This novel pulled me in from the first sentence: "GordonTreadwell woke to the sinking feeling that he'd done something terribly wrong." He ends up being the "bad boy" that I couldn't help but love. The female lead, Adele Primrose, is something of a surprise, too, with her independent streak. The details and language in this historical romance made me feel like I was actually there. It is well written and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre.Product details

Julia Donner writes wonderful stories filled with complex characters who employ themselves in interesting occupations. This is no exception. It is wonderful romance, with twists and turns that were surprising and delightful. Gerald and Adele are so much fun. That's all I'm willing to write. Someone else will do the spoilers. I recommend that you read all the stories in the "Friendship" series, as the main characters in each story manage to show up in each succeeding story as secondary and often heavily supporting characters.....hence the "Friendship" in the series. This is another great addition. I have read and enjoyed all the stories in the series. Be sure also to read "The Barbarian and His Lady", another new addition to the series. I look forward to the next romance. Enjoy.

This is a wonderful story! The characters are well-developed and the story flows perfectly. Ms.Donner really knows what she's doing. I eagerly await every new book in this series. I hope she never stops writing.
A fun set-up pits "Goodtime Gordie" against independent Adele -- and the fur flies!! Entertaining and amusing from the very first page, I couldn't help but cheer on the characters as they careened though plot twists and misunderstandings on their way to love. This is my favorite (so far) of The Friendship Series, though I still have a few to go. Don't miss this one!!!
I fell in love with Gordon the minute I met him. And then when we learned that he drank WAY too much and made an unfortunate bet, I worried for him. Until we met Adele. And then I decided that, between the two of them, they'd get exactly what they deserved--one heck of a ride! This book was a romp to read. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. This was Julia Donner's wicked humor at its best.

The characters are delightful
---Spinster heiress, Miss Prim, who is anything but prim.
---My Precious, the odious cat, who torments Miss Prim and adds humor to the story.
---Rogue ("Goodtime Gordie") Gordon Treadwell, who drunkenly bets to deflower or marry the spinster Adele.
---Showers, the Rogue's man servant, who banters with his master and is alternately either praised for his efficiency or threatened with dismissal, depending upon his master's moods.
The flirtations, misunderstandings, and twists to the plot, all keep the reader eagerly engaged. This book is fun and a great evening (or any time) read! I found I couldn't put it down once I started it. I trust you will enjoy this book, too. A definite 5 stars!
